1. Introduction
Welcome to Busy Labour (“Busy Labour”, “we”, “us”, or “our”).
Busy Labour is an online platform that lets project-based companies share available workers during downtime and hire temporary workers when a gap opens.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, store, and protect personal information when you visit busylabour.com (the “Site”) or use our services (the “Services”).
Our operations are based in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada. This policy is written to comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), and applicable United States state privacy laws, including California’s.
The Services are directed to businesses in Canada and the United States. They are not offered to, or targeted at, individuals in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom.
2. Who We Are
Until Busy Labour is incorporated, the Services are operated by an individual:
Viktoriia Semerneva
Privacy Officer and person accountable for personal information under PIPEDA and BC PIPA
Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada
Email: info@busylabour.com
You may contact the Privacy Officer at any time with questions, access requests, or complaints about this policy or your personal information. If Busy Labour is later incorporated, this section will be updated with the company’s legal name and registered address.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Launch notifications
While the platform is in development, you may give us your email address to be notified when it launches. We collect:
- your email address;
- which part of the Site you were interested in when you signed up;
- the date and time you gave your consent.
We use this only to send you notice of the launch and closely related product updates. Nothing else. You can ask us to delete it at any time, and every message we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
3.2 Company account and profile
When you register a company account we collect:
- company name;
- your first and last name, and job title;
- your email address;
- your password, stored only as a salted cryptographic hash — we never see or store it in readable form;
- whether you opted in to marketing communications.
When you build out your company profile we collect what you choose to add, such as your sector, country and province or state, business description, website, and logo.
3.3 Worker information added by companies
Companies add their workers to the platform. Depending on what a company enters, this may include a worker’s name, trade or role, skills, hourly rate, and availability status.
Workers do not create these records themselves. Section 6 explains how we handle this and what rights a worker has.
3.4 Communications
Emails, support requests, feedback, and correspondence you send us, along with our replies.
3.5 Information collected automatically
When you visit the Site we and our hosting and security providers collect IP address, browser type, operating system, device information, pages viewed, referring website, and the date and time of access.
3.6 Worker accounts (not yet available)
If we introduce accounts that workers create for themselves, we expect to collect professional information such as resumes, work experience, certifications and licences, employment preferences, ratings, and optional profile photographs. We do not collect this today. We will update this policy and give notice before we start.
4. How We Use Information
- create, verify, and manage accounts;
- review and moderate company registrations before they are published;
- provide, operate, and improve the Services;
- communicate with you about your account, security, and changes to the Services;
- respond to support requests;
- keep the platform secure and detect fraud or abuse;
- send marketing and launch communications where you have consented;
- enforce our Terms of Service;
- comply with legal obligations.
We rely on your consent, on performing our contract with you, on legal obligations, and on our legitimate business interests — specifically: protecting platform security, preventing fraud, moderating company registrations, and improving the Services.
5. Marketing Communications
We send commercial email only to people who have expressly consented, and we keep a record of when and how that consent was given, as CASL requires.
Every commercial message identifies us, gives our contact information, and contains an unsubscribe link that works for at least 60 days. Unsubscribe requests are honoured within 10 business days, usually immediately.
Withdrawing marketing consent does not stop essential service messages about your account, security, or legal notices.
6. Workers Whose Information Is Added by a Company
When a company adds a worker to the platform, that worker has not signed up with us and may not know their information is here. We take this seriously.
- Under our Terms of Service, the company confirms that it has the worker’s consent to provide us with their information, and is responsible for the accuracy of what it enters.
- A worker may contact our Privacy Officer at any time to ask what information about them is held, to have it corrected, or to have it removed from the platform. We will act on such a request even though the worker is not our account holder.
- If a worker asks us to remove their record, we will remove it and notify the company that added it.
- If ratings or work history are introduced, a worker will be able to see and dispute what has been recorded about them before it affects them.
We do not sell, rent, or license worker information to anyone.
7. Information You Publish
Information you choose to put in your public company profile — including your company name, sector, description, location, logo, and the workers you make available — is visible to other registered businesses using the platform, and may be visible to visitors of the Site.
Publish only information you are authorized to disclose. Information you publish about a worker is subject to section 6.
8. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We share it only in these situations.
Service providers
We use a small number of third parties to run the Site. They may process personal information only on our instructions and only to provide their service:
| What they do | What they receive |
|---|---|
| Web hosting, content delivery, and caching | everything stored on the Site, including account data |
| Website security and firewall | IP addresses, request details, and login attempts |
| Email delivery | recipient email address and message content |
Our hosting provider stores data in North America. Our security provider processes IP addresses and request metadata in the United States. The fonts used on the Site are served from our own servers, so viewing a page does not disclose your visit to a font or content-delivery provider.
We do not use analytics, advertising, or session-recording services. There is no Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag, or similar tracker on the Site. If we ever add one, we will update this policy and, where consent is required, ask for it first.
Legal requirements
We may disclose information where required by law or where reasonably necessary to comply with a lawful request, protect our legal rights, investigate fraud, or protect users and the public.
Business transfers
If Busy Labour is sold, merged, reorganized, or its assets transferred, personal information may transfer as part of that transaction. We will notify you where required by law.
9. International Transfers
Your information is stored in North America and may be processed in the United States by the providers described in section 8. While information is in another country, it may be accessible to the courts and law enforcement of that country under its laws. We use contractual safeguards with our providers to protect it.
10. How Long We Keep Information
| Information | Retention |
|---|---|
| Launch notification email addresses | 24 months, or until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, whichever comes first |
| Company account and profile | while the account is active, then up to 24 months after closure to resolve disputes and prevent fraud |
| Worker records added by a company | until the company removes them, the worker asks us to remove them, or the company’s account is deleted |
| Support correspondence | 24 months from the last message |
| Security and access logs | as configured by our security provider, typically 30 days |
When information is no longer needed we delete it or irreversibly anonymize it. You can ask us to delete your information sooner at any time — see section 14.
11. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies only to make the Site work:
- Essential cookies keep you signed in, secure your session, protect forms against cross-site request forgery, and support our security provider’s protections.
- Functional cookies remember preferences such as caching state so pages load correctly.
We do not use analytics, advertising, or marketing cookies. If that changes we will update this policy and obtain consent where the law requires it.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies will prevent parts of the Site from working, including signing in.
12. Security
- HTTPS encryption for all traffic to and from the Site;
- passwords stored only as salted cryptographic hashes;
- a web application firewall that blocks malicious traffic and monitors login attempts;
- role-based access controls, so accounts get only the access they need;
- administrative access restricted to a small number of people;
- regular software and security updates.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Data Breaches
If a breach of security safeguards creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will report it to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada and notify you as soon as feasible, as PIPEDA requires. We keep records of security breaches involving personal information whether or not they are reportable.
14. Your Privacy Rights
Wherever you are, you may ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you and how it is used;
- give you a copy of it;
- correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- delete it;
- withdraw a consent you previously gave.
Email info@busylabour.com. We will verify your identity before acting, and we will respond within 30 days. If we need more time, we will tell you why and when to expect an answer.
You can also update most account details, or delete your account entirely, from your account settings.
When you delete your account, we may keep limited information where the law requires it, or where it is needed to resolve a dispute, enforce our agreements, or prevent fraud, for the periods set out in section 10.
We will not discriminate against you or degrade your service for exercising any of these rights.
15. Canada
Under PIPEDA and BC PIPA you have the right to access your personal information, to challenge its accuracy, and to withdraw consent, subject to legal and contractual limits. We are required to designate someone accountable for privacy compliance and to give you a way to raise concerns — that is our Privacy Officer, named in section 2.
How to complain. Contact our Privacy Officer first at info@busylabour.com. We will acknowledge your complaint, investigate it, and tell you the outcome in writing. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to:
- the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada — priv.gc.ca; or
- the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia — oipc.bc.ca.
16. United States
Where state privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act apply, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to access and delete it, to correct inaccuracies, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Busy Labour does not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under those laws, and we do not process sensitive personal information for the purpose of inferring characteristics about you.
The Site does not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals, because no consistent standard for them exists.
17. Automated Decisions
We do not make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you solely by automated means. Company registrations are reviewed and approved by a person.
18. Children’s Privacy
The Services are intended for businesses and for working adults. They are not directed to anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly.
19. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the “Last updated” date above and give additional notice where the law requires it. Continuing to use the Services after a change means you accept the updated policy.
